Your Weight and Life Insurance

Life insurance is quarry to several different factors, such as age, medical history, family background, and many more. But one thing that seems superficial but actually makes a big impact on life insurance is your weight. Your weight and life insurance seems to have a love-hate relationship. It only becomes an issue when the hate part surfaces, and it only does when your weight exceeds way past the point that is considered acceptably healthy.

How does you weight affect your life insurance? Well, to put it simply, people who are overweight tend to be given high life insurance premiums than the average person. That is, if he or she manages to find a good life insurance policy because not all companies are willing to sell life insurance to overweight people. The reason can be guessed. Being overweight has a direct relationship to having other medical conditions such as high blood pressure, heart diseases, and many others. Even if you don't have any serious medical conditions and just has a natural tendency to be on the heavy side, you will still find hindrances in buying life insurance. And the relationship is practically parallel even. Most life insurance companies even go so far as to take how far over the normal weight you are in calculating how much to pad your life insurance price with.

This may all sound rather unfair, but unfortunately, it's a fact well-known in the life insurance industry. The good news is that the situation can also be balanced by other factors, such as your height. Life insurance companies do not just write you off as overweight that easily. They do take into consideration your entire built, which means that they check the proportion of your height and weight. If you are still doing okay in these two aspects combined, then you can still get a good life insurance policy. If you are, however, heavier than you should be as dictated by your height, this might be a very challenging situation to be in especially if you are really bent on looking for life insurance.

This is not an uncommon problem. The number of overweight people all over the world is fast growing. Perhaps it can be attributed to the growing heap of tempting products out in the market, but no matter what the causes are, its effects on the people are rather harsh, one of which happens to be difficulty in investing and planning well for the future. That's why a lot of people have experienced getting rejected by life insurance companies. However, there are some companies that offer special life insurance policies such as guaranteed issue life insurance for people who have this problem. These policies have what are termed as graded death benefits. Guaranteed issue life insurance means that the amount of benefits paid out changes from time to time, in relation to your life expectancy.

Most of the time, guaranteed issue life insurance policies no longer require you to present a medical exam, for the mere reason perhaps that people who look for such policies have medical history problems in the first place.

If you are overweight and happens to be in a really tight position when it comes to life insurance, look for graded death benefits policies so you can still insure yourself and protect your families in the future.
