Car Insurance Cancellation Notices and Your Options

Car insurance cancellation notices are a scary deal, especially when you are young and are trying to keep all of your ducks in a row. In fact, many people are more afraid of a car insurance cancellation notice than they are afraid of creditors and collection agencies. The law requires that you are sent out a notice before your car insurance cancellation notice goes into effect. However, if for some reason you don't receive it (like you didn't bother to open your mail or something like that) your car insurance policy will still be cancelled without further ado.

The wording of your first car insurance cancellation notice will be written in verbiage that makes it sound like you are in a world of trouble. It will tell you that they are notifying the state and that you have only a few days to get coverage before your driving rights are taken away. Of course, if you look closely at the car insurance cancellation notice, you will see that you have until 11:59 pm on a specified date to make the payment and your cancellation will not take effect. While you absolutely need to abide by the date given on the notice, you can look at the notice as a late payment notice much like the cable company or the electric company would send you. The only difference is that when the cable company shuts off your service, it is an annoyance. When the car insurance company cuts off your service, you have to deal with the state and take measures to prevent either vehicle suspension of driver license suspension. It is best just to pay it as soon as humanly possible to avoid such a mess.

A car insurance cancellation notice will also be sent if your driving record has become intolerable by the company's standards. Perhaps you have racked up quite a few speeding tickets, lost your license, or have made several claims due to numerous fender benders, or worse. In such cases, you can't just pay the bill but you have to find new coverage for your vehicle or you won't be driving for very long at all. Do not be tempted to drive without insurance. It might seem like no one would notice, but you are taking risks that you are probably not even aware of and the only outcome guaranteed by driving without insurance is a negative outcome.

Young people in particular are prone to receiving car insurance cancellation notices. It is nothing so big that should induce an anxiety attack, but at the same time it does require your immediate attention. The sooner you can take care of the situation, the better. Don't try to cut corners or get away with pushing limits, unless you are truly missing paying bus fare.
