Can you negotiate with your Health Insurance Company?
Have you recently received notice from your health insurance company that your premium is going to increase? If so, you know just how annoying this can be. After all, it seems as if these notices are being sent more often than ever before. For consumers who do not want to comply, the big question is: can you negotiate with your health insurance company? This is a question that many want to know the answer to.
Generally speaking, you can try to negotiate a better rate with your health insurance provider. Does this mean that it will work? Of course not. You may find that your health insurance company cannot do anything to help you out. But with that being said, you are never going to know until you ask. If you get the right person on the phone, you may find that they are willing to work with you in order to keep your business.
When negotiating, do not ask for too much. In other words, you should ask for your premium to stay the same, not for a decrease. If you begin to ask for too much, it is safe to say that you are going to get turned down.
Keep in mind that some health insurance companies will try to negotiate by changing the plan that you carry. While this may lower the cost of coverage, it will also change the type of policy that you have. This may sound like a good idea from a price standpoint, but may not suit your needs in the area that matters most: coverage. You don't want to give up the benefits of your policy to save a few dollars. If this is how your health insurance company negotiates, you will want to proceed with caution.
All in all, you have every right to negotiate with your health insurance company. Keep this in mind if you receive a notice stating that your premium is going to be increased.
